Dumb and Dumber creators Bobby and Peter Farrelly were more than just bummed when Warner Bros. decided to drop the sequel “Dumb and Dumber to” (yes, that is the title). Rumors had even spread the Jim Carrey marched out of the meeting.
The movie should be in production now with Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey reprising their roles, and as of September, the Farrelly brothers had tweeted that they were wrapping up the script. The story shows the two stars going on a road trip to find the long-lost child of one character in hopes of attaining a kidney transplant.
The Farrelly Brothers say the movie may still get made, but the directors will have to find a new financier and distribution now that the studio doesn’t think it’s worth the time, or the $30-million-ish budget that The Hollywood Reporter reports would be required to get the job done.
Bringing in $127.2 million total grossed profit against a $17 million budget and a huge fan base on the 1994 original, I feel, gives much reason to create the sequel with the original duo, Daniels and Carrey, in tow.
Being as though Dumb and Dumber is one of my personal favorite movies, I would gladly finance that budget if I was able to. Unfortunately, that’s not possible.
What are your thoughts on a sequel to the 1994 classic? Yay? Or Nay?
If you are not familiar with the Farrelly brothers, here is a list of other blockbuster knockouts the pair have made:
